EVENTS AND FESTIVALS 

Feast of St. Blaise February 3 - Linked to the legend that tells how the saint was able to remove a thorn from the throat of a dying man. In the scenic countryside of Ostuni wilderness thousands of pilgrims make their way on foot (some even barefoot) to the shrine located in a rugged gorge where, in a church, is the obelisk of St. Blaise. Tradition has it that, to remember the episode, before officiating the Mass the priest touches with a wet finger in the holy water the throat of every faithful, making the sign of the cross.

Feast of the Madonna of the Nova - Occurs on the Sunday after Easter. The ostunesi pay visit to the shrine, and then eat a cake shaped like a dove and a boiled egg in the center, told The Palomma. Cavalcade of Sant'OronzoAugust 25-26-27 – Feast dedicated to St. Horace, protector of the city of Ostuni, during these days a procession of horses and riders decked out to the nines, parades through the streets to escort the patron saint. According to a tradition that recurs every year since 1793, every year, during the celebrations and solemn procession dedicated to St. Horace, protector of the city from the mid-seventeenth century. In 1657, in fact, Ostuni and other towns of the Terra d'Otranto were spared from the plague through a miracle that the popular belief attributed to the saint. Hence, it was the devotion of Ostuni, who go in procession to the shrine erected in his honor on the ridges of Mount Morrone. The statue of the saint silver, taken from the Cathedral, is escorted by "valicali" on horseback.
